The serious stuff
Not wearing a proper sports bra during exercise can lead to significant breast bounce which damages the supportive ligaments, resulting in stretch marks and causes back, neck and shoulder pain. The moisture-wicking fabric helps absorb sweat, reduce chafing and ultimately reduce injury risk. During activity, a good sports bra, correctly fitted, provides compression that supports blood flow and muscles. Feeling unsupported can restrict effort and contribute to low confidence which leads us to doubt our physical abilities and curb our need to succeed and flourish.

The UK Research Group in Breast Health reported that ‘exercise feels harder when breasts are not properly supported, fatigue may be reached sooner and the wearer is hesitant to stride out, which could mean they are running an extra mile over the length of a marathon’. Let’s work together to beat that!

Types of Sports bras
The two specific sports bra styles for fuller busts are Compression and Encapsulation. Compression styles are wirefree, they offer less separation but have increased support. Encapsulation sports bras are purposely designed to support each breast individually.

Sports bras will not be the prettiest bras in your lingerie drawer! They require more coverage for superior support, some have a J-hook and wide cushioned straps to reduce uncomfortable bounce. Try a few different styles and test each sports bra by moving around, running on the spot, swinging your arms and jumping, the changing room is an intimate place, no embarrassment at all! Never settle for discomfort and if it doesn’t feel right for you, try a different style.

Ban the Bounce
Always ensure your sports bras fit well on the loosest hooks to allow you to tighten them as elasticity reduces. They should not poke, constrict breathing, or cause bulging. Underwired sports bras must sit flat against the ribcage and run smoothly towards the armpit without sitting on your breast tissue. The centre gore should lie flat against your sternum without rubbing or digging in.

Inspired to achieve your fitness goals?
It’s the perfect time to be inspired, many Aussie women are off to compete at the Olympics in Paris and for the first time in history, women will make up 50 per cent of all athletes. Let’s support them all.

For high impact sports such as sprinting, netball, basketball, soccer, gymnastics and Aussie Rules it's crucial that your sports bra is supportive and comfortable. Not just for Olympics though, also Pilates, Yoga, Running, Horse Riding, Tennis and Cycling; whatever keeps you fit and happy.

The perfect fit means no puckering at the bottom of the cups, both breasts encased without bulging or spillage. The back band needs to be firm yet comfortable, lying horizontally across your back without riding up or sloping down, it shouldn’t dig in or be too loose. The shoulder straps should be secure but not too tight. Sports bras do feel tighter than everyday bras, but if it’s too tight, try the next size up or a different style.

  • Many women in physical roles or wearing uniforms wear sports bras daily for their support, comfort and control of breast movement. They create a smoother appearance and help women feel nicely covered and confident.

  • Teen girls often drop out of sport, it’s a delicate time when female bodies change and the world around them notices, creating self-consciousness and embarrassment. The wrong bra will be uncomfortable and painful when playing sport. As the School Athletics Carnivals kick in - the right sports bra, correctly fitted will minimise breast bounce and increase their confidence.

Determining the correct bra size can be puzzling, but an experienced and specialist fuller bust bra fitter will assess the bra to ensure the best fit for comfort, support, and health. At Brava women receive personalised advice and find the perfect fit to significantly improve their posture and alleviate discomfort.

A well-fitted sports bra ensures you’re wearing the right size and style for your unique body and to drive you to put in the amazing effort to achieve and exceed your physical goals. Our ‘Ultimate Goal’ is to present a sports bra to you that delivers comfort and support, making you forget you're even wearing it. It’s an absolute game changer.
